The average American consumes about 35 lbs. of High-Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS) per year. A hazardous ingredient that many research studies have linked to a significant decrease in brain function, related to both—memory and learning. The researchers go even on to say that the ubiquitous substance can make you stupid. Considering that HFCS is present in over 90% of processed foods: sodas, candy, ice cream, and hundreds of other ‘non-sweet’ processed foods, enough to make up the 35 lbs. annual figure. It is easy to see that the average American diet contains enough HFCS to seriously impact mental capabilities.
So what does this mean for the United States and other nations where HFCS consumption has run rampant? Outside of the obvious issue surrounding the that agencies like the FDA continue to let this ingredient and other poisons permeate the food supply. Despite studies linking HFCS to a multitude of health problems, it raises concern over just how much of an impact toxic substances like HFCS have the nation’s mental health. When you consider that HFCS is but one of many dangerous food ingredients that may harm your biological functions, it really puts the matter into perspective.
Also, the research is quite clear. Conducted by UCLA and published in the peer-review Journal of Physiology, the landmark study established the relationship between a diet high in HFCS and decreased brain function—particularly when it comes to memory and learning, two key functions of the academic field, and basically everything else in life. “Our findings illustrate that what you eat effects how you think,” explained UCLA professor of neurosurgery, Fernando Gomez-Pinilla. HFCS is now also called “Corn Syrup.”
In the past, HFCS was found to contain mercury—an element that is toxic in all forms and poses a direct threat to human health. While amount of mercury present in the substance is not clear, based upon research, it is easy to downplay this fact by saying the mercury content is present in ‘very low levels.’ When considering the total average annual consumption of HFCS per person, and the fact that mercury accumulates in the brain, it becomes more apparent how much of a threat mercury exposure really is. Furthermore, HFCS has also been lined to obesity, diabetes and other disorders. The typical American diet has been continuously shown to be a destructive trap full of all kinds of disastrous health issues. And the FDA, the AMA and Big Pharma do their best to make sure it stays that way.
When is the public going to wake-up and start valuing their bodies by taking responsibility for their health by eating clean, healthy food. The people in this nation are, by their own hands, eating themselves into stupidity and disease.
